SPRINGFIELD, N.J. -- United States Presidents Cup captain Jack Nicklaus selected Justin Leonard and Fred Couples on Monday to round out his 12-player squad for this year's event at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia.

International captain Gary Player chose Australian Peter Lonard and South African Trevor Immelman to round out his team.

The Presidents Cup is a Ryder Cup-style event featuring a team of United States players against a squad of international players from outside Europe contested every two years.

The United States team, in addition to Leonard and Couples, consists of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, David Toms, Kenny Perry, Chris DiMarco, Jim Furyk, Fred Funk, Stewart Cink, Davis Love III and Scott Verplank.

The International squad will feature Vijay Singh, Retief Goosen, Adam Scott, Angel Cabrera, Tim Clark, Michael Campbell, Stuart Appleby, Mike Weir and Nick O'Hern.

Mark Hensby, who was 11th on the International points list, made the team in place of No. 2 Ernie Els, who is out for the year with a knee injury.

Two years ago in South Africa, the matches ended in a tie. Woods and Els went to a dramatic sudden-death playoff, made clutch putts to save par, and the captains settled for a tie when it was too dark to continue.
